Hi Janice…..I also have my grandmothers family clock, same size as yours and same problem for husband, has to be turned off each evening so he can sleep….me I was brought up with it chimes in the night……it also strikes every 1/4 hour……and sometimes i don’t hear it at all……..but yes it brings back lots of memory. I am the custodian of the family clock and it is nearly 92 years of age, and I have all the documents of purchase from MYERS……many many years ago…just remember they still have to be serviced every 10 years and a drop of oil for the workings…….my service chap comes from Lilydale and he is great……not so his account, but I look at it…..it is only every 10 years……….and its the family grandfather clock…….cheers noelene

Thanks for your comment Noelene. The strikes every 1/4 hour were part of the sounds of the household when I was a kid and I still find the tick toch very comforting.
